In this section we’ll discuss some of the social, emotional and cultural factors that affect a patient’s adherence to a treatment program. As I talk about these factors, think about the Lanesha Johnson case as well as other similar cases that you’ve experienced as a health care professional. You need to build a conceptual framework for understanding and handling issues related to culture compentency.
